Alaska Native Visual Art

Open to high school students, including those about to enter 9th grade and those who just graduated.

Working with Beckie to create Alaska Native Art projects at each of the village sites throughout the course of the summer.  Our projects will be, but are not limited to: drum making (both Eskimo and Southeast), mask making, skin sewing and beading.  Students will work with Beckie between one to two weeks at each of the sites creating these art pieces.  Completed art pieces will become part of ANHC working collections.  Students will also be able to keep their own art pieces.

Class instruction will be from May 29, 2012 through August 5, 2012, Tuesday through Friday.  Program hours are from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm with lunch from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm; students can eat lunch on-site.  We encourage students who participate in this program to dedicate at least two weeks for each art project to ensure its completion.  Students are also encouraged to participate at least two to three hours each day, but are more than welcome to stay for the entire six hours.
