A variety of art classes from 2 week classes to 2 hours will fit any schdulede.  Find the class that is right for your style, schedule and interests at the Alaska Native Heritage Center.

Athabascan Moose Hide Vest with Denise Hardesty
This class is designed to take novice and skilled skin sewers into the
production of this project. Denise loves to work moose hide and is
expert in producing these projects.

Tlingit Cedar Bark (twining) with Holly Churchill 
Twining a small cedar basket with Holly Churchill.  Note: this is a labor intense class, be prepared to work well over class time as you will need to devote 40 to 60
hours over the scheduled class time to complete this project.

Tlingit Cedar Bark (plaiting) with Diane Willard 
Diane Douglas-Willard will be teaching plaiting weaving. This technique
is excellent for the beginner or advanced person to complete the
project by the end of the scheduled class time.

Yup’ik Mukluks with Eva Bryant 
Eva Bryant will be teaching the basics of the class. Another class is
tied to this class to make the soles of the mukluks.  The traditional making of mukluk soles is an endangered art form.  This is a unique opportunity to learn this production in conjunction with the mukluk class.

Inupiaq Baleen Baskets with Maryjane Litchard 
MaryJane Litchard is a master at working this material. The goal of
this class is to produce a project of your own design and creation.
The nature of this class is to learn the materials’ nature, flexibility
and limitations.

Aleut Bentwood Visor with Patty Lekanoff-Gregory 
Patricia Lekanoff-Gregory is teaching this cultures style of visor
making. Participants will carve the wood and bend it into its’ final
shape. Designs will be explained during this class.

Haida Cedar Hat with Della Cheney 
Della Cheney will be teaching
plaiting in Tlingit style. This weaving technique is for the novice
and advanced participant. Projects can be a hat, basket or rattle.

How to register
All ANHC graduate level credit courses are listed on the Anchorage School District’s web site www.mylearningplan.org. You may post your registration request on the website, but must also call ANHC and pay the materials and instructor fee in order to
secure a place in the class. Those without access to the www.mylearningplan.org website register by calling the Heritage Center’s scheduler at 330-8000. Places will be held only with the receipt of payment in full.

FEES
Class fees are determined by the cost of materials and instructor fee, in addition to the University of Alaska Anchorage tuition fee. Class
participants will be asked to pay with two checks or credit card runs: the first to UAA for tuition, and the second to ANHC for materials
and instructor. ANHC members receive a discount, as noted.

Refunds
Full refund if withdrawal is three weeks or more prior to the start of the class. 50% refund if withdrawal is between one and three
weeks prior to start of class. No refund if withdrawal is one week or less prior to start of class.
