The Alaska Native Heritage Center brings the dog mushing experience to Anchorage. Nowhere in the city can you experience the rush and power of 18 Alaskan Huskies, pound-for-pound the strongest animals in the world, pulling you in an off road vehicle on a wooded trail. Team Baker Tours hosts these rides. John Baker, a veteran dog musher, took first place in the 2011 Iditarod race and broke the record for fastest finish by four hours.

He and his team have set up camp all summer long at the Heritage Center. Meet mushers and veteran racers in the Iditarod and Yukon Quest, both 1000 mile long races through the frigid wilderness of Northwestern America. Hear firsthand the fascinating stories, the history and evolution of dog mushing and the intriguing experiences of these mushers. Come with questions, because these racers are eager to share their knowledge and are passionate about their dogs as well as the sport of mushing.
On site are a litter of Husky puppies to pet and hold, a check point tent and 18 friendly dogs, all experienced racers. John’s dog sled and parka are also on display for visitors to see.
Dog team rides are $10. Access to the world of mushing without ever leaving the city.

Team Baker Tours or Qipmigaq (kip-mi-gak) is an Inupiaq word meaning traveling with dogs.
