Native Voices
Native Peoples' Concepts of Health and Illness

Brought to you by the National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health

This traveling exhibit focuses on native concepts of health and illness that have sustained Alaska Natives, Native Americans, and Native Hawaiians for generations. It also explores the contemporary revival of native ideas that help sustain these traditions in the twenty-first century.

You will hear native voices speak about individual responsibility, the importance of community, respect for nature, tradition and the Great Spirit, as well as the challenges of balancing traditional medicine with Western medicine.

On display in the Hall of Cultures from June 13 - September 15, 2014
